Upper Jackass Lake

Upper Jackass Lake is a backpacking destination in the Ansel Adams Wilderness along the Yosemite National Park boundary. Accessible via a roughly 5-mile hike from the trailhead with gradual elevation gain through mixed conifer forests to ~9,000 ft elevation. Multiple dispersed camping spots available around the lake below Madera Peak (10,509 ft). The route features granite gardens, shade coverage, and rocky exposed terrain near the lake and continuing to the peak. High altitude with sharp temperature changes; bring extra layers, water, food, and sunscreen. Pets allowed on leash. Parking at trailhead is free and open.
