Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 18, 2026.
This policy describes how Campsite Adventures LLC (“Campsite,” “we,” “us”) collects, uses, and shares information when you use the Campsite mobile apps and the website at campsite.camp (together, the “Service”). It covers visitors, account holders, and people who post reviews, photos, or campsites.
Campsite is a map and community for finding places to camp. We do not sell personal information. The Service includes affiliate product links labeled Ad, described under Affiliate links.
Information you provide
We collect the information you choose to give us:
- Account. Your email address. We sign you in with a one-time code sent to that email. We do not ask you to create a password.
- Profile. A first name, a last initial, and a profile photo. Each of these is optional. The name field accepts one letter for the initial.
- Reviews and photos. Ratings, review text, and photos you add to a campsite, dump station, or water station.
- Campsite submissions. Locations, descriptions, details, and photos you send us when you suggest a new campsite or a correction.
- Lists and saved places. Campsites and stations you save, and the lists you create. These are visible to your account and to us, and they are not published as public reviews.
- Marketing choice. Whether you asked us to email you about camping spots, tips, and offers. That box is unchecked unless you check it.
- Support messages. Anything you send to support@campsite.camp or through the support page.
Information collected automatically
When you use the Service, our infrastructure and the providers below receive technical information needed to run it:
- IP address, device or browser type, operating system, app version, and the date and time of a request.
- Pages and screens requested, and similar server logs from our website host and from Google Firebase, which hosts accounts, reviews, photos, and campsite data.
- The map area being viewed, which Mapbox receives in order to draw the map.
- Crash, performance, and session-replay data from the mobile app, described under Sentry below. The website does not use Sentry.
- Usage analytics from the app and the website, described under Usage analytics below.
Usage analytics
We use Google Analytics for Firebase to understand how the Service is used, so we can tell which features help people and fix the ones that don’t. It records the screens and pages you view and actions such as opening a campsite, searching, saving to a list, turning on a map layer, starting a campsite submission, opening the app from the website, or tapping an affiliate link. It also receives your device or browser type, operating system, app version, approximate region derived from your IP address, and how you arrived, such as the page or campaign that sent you.
When you are signed in, these events are linked to your Campsite account id so that use of the app and the website can be counted as one person. We do not send your email, name, review text, photos, or what you type into search. On the website, Google Analytics sets a first-party cookie (_ga) to recognize a returning browser. The mobile app uses an app instance id instead and does not collect the advertising identifier.
Advertising features are turned off: no Google Signals, no ad personalization, and no sharing of this data for ads. We do not use an advertising network inside the Service to build a profile of you for ads. If you subscribe, RevenueCat sends subscription events to Google Analytics so we can see which features lead to a subscription.
You can turn usage analytics off. In the app, use Settings, then Share usage analytics. On the website, use the switch below or the one in account settings. That choice is stored on the device or browser where you make it. You can also install Google’s opt-out browser add-on.
Location
The mobile app asks for location permission while you are using it. The website asks through your browser when you use the locate control, and when you start a campsite submission without coordinates. If you allow it, we use that location on your device to center the map and show your position, and to place a suggested pin for a campsite you are adding.
We do not keep a history of your location on our servers. A coordinate you submit as a campsite or station location is stored as the location of that place, and it can be shown publicly if the listing is published. Mapbox receives the map area needed to load tiles. A session replay from the mobile app can include the map that was on your screen.
You can turn location off in your device or browser settings. The map still works. It will not center on you.
Reviews, photos, and your public profile
Reviews and the photos attached to them are public. Other people can see them in the app and on campsite pages on the website, including pages that search engines may index.
In the app, and on the website when you are signed in, a review is shown with the author’s first name, last initial, and profile photo. On the public campsite pages of the website, the review text and photos are shown and the author is labeled “Camper,” without that name.
Your email address is not displayed with your reviews. Do not include anything in a review, photo, or display name that you want to keep private. Photos are resized before we store them. We do not use your photos to track your location.
Profile photos are stored so the app can show them next to reviews. Someone who has the photo address can load the image.
How we use information
We use information to:
- Create and secure your account, including sending sign-in codes.
- Show the map, campsites, stations, reviews, photos, weather, and map layers.
- Publish reviews, photos, and campsite submissions that we accept.
- Operate Campsite Supporter subscriptions and offline maps.
- Send a message when a campsite you submitted is approved and has been added to the map.
- Send product and camping emails if you opted in, and reply to support requests.
- Understand how the Service is used, measure which pages and features bring people to the app, and decide what to improve.
- Diagnose crashes and fix the Service, prevent abuse and fraud, and comply with law.
Sign-in codes, and the email that a submitted campsite is on the map, are account messages. We send those whether or not you opted into marketing.
We send promotional email only if you check the marketing box. You can opt out at any time by using the unsubscribe link in a marketing email, or by emailing support@campsite.camp. Opting out of marketing does not stop sign-in codes or other account messages.
Who we share information with
We share information with service providers that process it for us, and with the people who use the public parts of the Service. The main providers are:
- Google Firebase, which hosts authentication, the database, photos, and our server functions. On Android, Google Play Services also supports the app.
- Resend, which delivers sign-in codes and account email. A sign-in code is kept only until it expires or is used.
- Mapbox, which provides the map. Mapbox receives the map area being viewed and related technical data.
- RevenueCat, which records subscription status against your account id. Apple or Google processes the payment. We do not receive your full card number.
- Google Analytics for Firebase, in the app and on the website, for the usage analytics described above. Google processes this data on our behalf with advertising features turned off.
- Sentry, in the mobile app only. Sentry receives crash and performance data, and recordings of a sample of sessions plus sessions in which the app reports an error. A recording can include what was on screen, including text you entered and the map. Text and images in those recordings are not masked.
- Apple and Google, when you download the app or buy a subscription through the App Store or Google Play.
Weather, wildfire, air-quality, cell-coverage, and OpenStreetMap layers are loaded for the place on the map. Those requests are for a map area or a campsite coordinate. They are not tied to your name or email by us.
We also share information:
- If we believe in good faith that disclosure is required by law, subpoena, or a government request, or is needed to protect the rights, safety, and security of Campsite, our users, or the public, or to investigate fraud or abuse.
- If we are involved in a merger, financing, or sale of the business, in which case the recipient will be bound by this policy for previously collected information.
- With your direction, for example when you post a review or photo that the Service shows to other people.
We do not sell personal information. We do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We do not allow the providers above to use your account information for their own marketing. Opening an affiliate link is described under Affiliate links.
Affiliate links
Some screens show a product link with the label Ad. The weather forecast can include a Patagonia product chosen from the overnight low. If you buy through one of these links, we may earn a commission.
Opening the link takes you out of the Service to the retailer through Impact, the affiliate network that attributes the sale. The address does not include your name, email, account id, or location. Impact and the retailer, including Patagonia, receive the ordinary details of that visit, including IP address, device or browser type, and the time. They may set their own cookies so a later purchase can be attributed to Campsite. Their privacy policies cover what they collect after you leave. We may receive a report that a purchase was attributed to us. That report does not include your Campsite account.
How long we keep information
We keep account information, lists, and saved places while your account is open. Sign-in codes are deleted after they are used or expire. Server logs and crash data are kept for as long as the provider’s ordinary retention period, and then deleted or de-identified. Usage analytics events are kept for 14 months.
A review and its photos stay on the campsite or station until you delete that review, we remove it, or we take the listing down. Deleting your account does not, by itself, remove reviews and photos you already posted. Copies can remain in routine backups for a limited time after we delete the live copy.
Deleting content and deleting your account
You can delete a review you wrote, in the app or on the website. That removes the review and the photos attached to it from the Service.
You can delete your account in the app, or on the website in account settings. You can also email support@campsite.camp and ask us to delete it. Deletion removes your login, profile, profile photo, lists, and saved places. It does not cancel a Campsite Supporter subscription. Cancel that in your Apple or Google subscription settings.
Reviews and photos that you have not deleted stay up after the account is gone, and they are no longer linked to a profile. Delete any review you do not want left on a campsite before you delete the account. If you already deleted the account and want a remaining review or photo removed, email us and we will remove it.
Your requests
Email support@campsite.camp to access, correct, or delete personal information we hold about you, or to opt out of marketing email. Usage analytics can be turned off as described under Usage analytics. We may need to confirm that the request comes from the account holder. We will not charge a different price or reduce access because you made a privacy request.
Public reviews and photos are handled as described above. We may decline a request where the law allows us to, including where we need the information for security, to complete a transaction, or to comply with a legal obligation.
Uninstalling the app stops the app from collecting new information. It does not delete your account or the content you posted. Use account deletion for that.
Children
Campsite is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you are a parent or guardian and you believe a child under 13 has given us personal information, email support@campsite.camp and we will delete it.
If you are 13 to 17, you may use the Service only with a parent or guardian’s permission. The Terms of Use explain that requirement.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information, including access controls on our database and encrypted connections. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure. Use a unique email you control, and tell us if you believe your account has been used without permission.
Where we process information
We are based in the United States. Information is processed in the United States and in other countries where our providers operate. If you use the Service from outside the United States, you understand that your information will be processed in the United States, where privacy laws may differ from the laws where you live.
If a law where you live gives you privacy rights we cannot contract away, those rights still apply. European Economic Area, United Kingdom, and Swiss users can contact support@campsite.camp to ask for access, correction, deletion, or a copy of their information, or to object to or restrict certain processing.
Changes
We will post changes on this page and update the date above. If a change materially reduces your rights, we will provide a notice in the app or on the website, or by email if we have your address and the change requires it. Continued use after the effective date means you accept the updated policy.
