Campsite

Terms of Use

Last updated: October 21, 2026.

These Terms of Use (“Terms”) are a contract between you and Campsite Adventures LLC (“Campsite,” “we,” “us”) for the Campsite mobile applications and the website at campsite.camp, including maps, listings, reviews, photos, and related services (the “Service”). They are the terms of service referred to at sign-in.

By accessing or using the Service, or by creating an account, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

Campsite information can be wrong, incomplete, or out of date. Read the section “Camping, maps, and safety” before you rely on a listing, a review, or a map layer.

Who may use Campsite

You must be at least 13 years old. If you are under 18, you may use the Service only if a parent or guardian has reviewed these Terms and agreed to them for you. That parent or guardian is responsible for your use of the Service, including anything you post.

We do not knowingly allow children under 13 to create an account or post content. If we learn that an account belongs to a child under 13, we will delete it.

You may not use the Service if you are barred from receiving services under United States law, including if you are located in a country subject to a U.S. embargo or are on a U.S. government list of prohibited or restricted parties.

Accounts

Some features, including posting reviews and photos, require an account. You sign in with a one-time code sent to your email. You are responsible for that email account and for activity under your Campsite account. Tell us at support@campsite.camp if you believe someone is using your account without permission.

Your display name is a first name and last initial. It must not impersonate another person, use a name or trademark you do not have rights to, or be offensive, vulgar, or obscene. Profile details you provide must not be misleading.

Camping, maps, and safety

The Service is a planning aid. It is not an official source, a navigation guarantee, or an emergency service. Conditions on the ground control. You are responsible for deciding whether a trip is safe and legal.

Campsite listings, station listings, and map data can be outdated, incomplete, or entirely wrong. That includes information we compiled and information a user submitted and we later published. We do not visit campsites to verify them, and we do not guarantee that any detail is current. This includes, without limitation:

  • Location, access, roads, gates, vehicle clearance, and whether a road is open or passable.
  • Fees, reservations, permits, availability, closures, stay limits, and whether camping is allowed at all.
  • Water, hookups, dump stations, restrooms, cell service, amenities, and vehicle-length limits.
  • Land status, including whether a place is public land, private land, or closed.
  • Reviews, photos, and ratings, which are user opinions and snapshots, not an inspection.
  • Map layers, including public-land boundaries, roads, cell-coverage estimates, night-sky and light-pollution information, live and historic wildfire perimeters, air quality, and smoke.
  • Weather and elevation, which are estimates for a coordinate and can differ from conditions in mountains and remote terrain. Offline maps are a copy from the time you downloaded them.

Before you go, confirm details with the land manager or owner and with current official sources. That may be the U.S. Forest Service, the Bureau of Land Management, the National Park Service, a state or local park agency, a tribal authority, or a private campground. Cell-coverage layers are estimates from published carrier data. They do not mean you will have service or that you will be able to call for help. Wildfire, smoke, and air-quality layers can be delayed or wrong. Do not use them for evacuation, health, or life-safety decisions. Follow local emergency management and official orders. If you are in danger, contact local emergency services. Do not rely on the Service to summon help.

Approving a user submission and placing it on the map does not mean we verified it. The same warnings apply to listings we publish ourselves.

Assumption of risk

Camping, hiking, driving forest and desert roads, and traveling in remote places are dangerous. Risks include serious injury, death, property damage, getting lost or stranded, fire, weather, wildlife, unstable or closed roads, lack of water, and lack of communications. You voluntarily assume those risks to the fullest extent permitted by law, whether or not you used the Service to plan the trip.

This assumption of risk does not waive liability for our gross negligence, willful misconduct, or fraud, or any liability that California law does not allow a contract to waive.

Your content

“Content” means text, photos, listings, corrections, and other material you submit to the Service. You keep ownership of your Content. You are responsible for it, including its legality and accuracy.

You grant Campsite a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, transferable, and sublicensable license to host, store, reproduce, modify, adapt, publish, translate, create derivative works from, publicly display, publicly perform, and distribute your Content. This license covers use in the app and on the website, including resizing, cropping, and compressing photos, showing Content to other users, and using Content in materials that describe or promote the Service.

The license lasts for as long as the Content remains on the Service. It continues after you delete your account for reviews, photos, and listings that remain published. If you delete a review, or if we remove Content, the license for that Content ends once it is removed from the live Service, except for copies in routine backups for a limited time. To the extent permitted by law, you waive moral rights in Content you submit, so that we can resize and format it.

You represent and warrant that:

  • You own the Content or have the rights needed to post it and to grant this license.
  • If a photo shows a recognizable person, you have that person’s permission. If a recognizable person is a minor, you have permission from their parent or guardian.
  • You have the right to share the location, and camping there is lawful. Do not submit sites on private property, or on closed or restricted land, unless the owner or land manager allows the public to camp there and allows you to publish the location.
  • The Content does not infringe copyright, trademark, privacy, publicity, or other rights, and does not violate law or these Terms.
  • You have not knowingly included false or misleading information. Opinions and your own experience are fine. Presenting a guess, an old trip, or an unverified detail as a current fact is not.

We do not verify user Content. We have no duty to monitor it. We may review, edit for formatting, refuse, or remove Content, and we may suspend accounts, at our discretion. If we approve a campsite you submit, we may publish the location and details as a public listing. Publishing it does not make it our representation that the listing is accurate.

Content rules

You may not post Content, or use the Service to:

  • Break the law, or help someone else break the law.
  • Post child sexual abuse material, or any sexual or exploitative content involving a minor. We report apparent child sexual abuse material to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and may report it to law enforcement.
  • Post intimate images of another person without their consent, or post another person’s private contact, financial, or precise location information in order to harass or endanger them.
  • Harass, threaten, or defame anyone, or target them based on race, religion, sex, gender, sexual orientation, national origin, or similar characteristics.
  • Impersonate another person, Campsite, or a land manager or emergency service.
  • Infringe intellectual property or other rights, including by uploading a photo you do not have the right to use.
  • Send spam, unsolicited advertising, or malware, or attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Service or to another person’s account or data.
  • Knowingly post false or misleading information about a place, a person, or conditions such as access, hazards, closures, or fees.

You may be exposed to Content that is offensive, indecent, or wrong. We are not responsible for Content posted by users.

Copyright complaints

We respond to notices of copyright infringement that meet the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, 17 U.S.C. § 512. If you believe Content on the Service infringes your copyright, email a notice to our designated agent that includes all of the following:

  • Your physical or electronic signature, as the copyright owner or a person authorized to act for the owner.
  • Identification of the copyrighted work you claim has been infringed.
  • Identification of the material you claim is infringing, with enough detail for us to find it, such as the page address.
  • Your name, mailing address, telephone number, and email address.
  • A statement that you have a good-faith belief that the use is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.
  • A statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information in the notice is accurate and that you are the owner or are authorized to act for the owner.

Send notices to the copyright agent: Campsite Adventures LLC, 4669 San Andreas Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90065, support@campsite.camp. We may remove or disable access to the material. If you misrepresent that material is infringing, you may be liable for damages, including costs and attorneys’ fees.

If your Content was removed and you believe that was a mistake or a misidentification, you may send a counter-notice that includes all of the following:

  • Your physical or electronic signature.
  • Identification of the material that was removed and the location where it appeared before it was removed.
  • A statement, under penalty of perjury, that you have a good-faith belief the material was removed or disabled as a result of mistake or misidentification.
  • Your name, address, and telephone number, and a statement that you consent to the jurisdiction of the federal district court for the judicial district where your address is located, or, if you are outside the United States, for any judicial district in which Campsite may be found, and that you will accept service of process from the person who sent the original notice.

We may restore the material if the copyright owner does not file a court action within the period the DMCA provides. We terminate the accounts of repeat infringers in appropriate circumstances.

Campsite Supporter subscriptions

Most of the Service is free. Campsite Supporter is an optional auto-renewing subscription sold in the iOS and Android apps. It unlocks offline map downloads and any other paid features described on the purchase screen at the time you subscribe. The price, billing period, and any free trial are shown on that screen before you confirm. If a free trial is offered, the screen states when it ends and what you will be charged afterward.

Payment is charged to your Apple ID or Google Play account. The subscription renews for the same period at the then-current price unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Apple and Google manage billing, renewal, and refunds under their own terms. Cancel in your Apple or Google subscription settings. Deleting your Campsite account does not cancel the subscription. We do not receive your full payment card number.

App stores

If you download the iOS app, you also agree to Apple’s Licensed Application End User License Agreement. If these Terms conflict with Apple’s terms about licensing the iOS app itself, Apple’s terms control that conflict. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of the iOS license and may enforce it. Apple is not responsible for the app, its content, maintenance, or support. Your use of the Android app is also subject to the Google Play Terms of Service.

Our intellectual property

The Service, including our software, design, and original compilation of the map, is owned by Campsite and its licensors. These Terms do not grant you any right in our trademarks, including the Campsite name and logos. You may not copy, scrape, resell, or build a competing dataset from the Service except as these Terms or applicable law allow. Map data, boundaries, and other layers may be owned by third parties and are subject to their terms. OpenStreetMap data is used under the Open Database License. OpenStreetMap contributors retain their rights.

Feedback

If you send us ideas or suggestions about the Service, you assign to us all rights in that feedback. If an assignment is not effective, you grant us a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free license to use the feedback without restriction or payment.

Affiliate links

The Service shows product links labeled Ad, including a Patagonia product next to a weather forecast. If you buy through one of those links, Campsite may earn a commission. A product shown beside a temperature is not advice that the item is safe or suitable for those conditions, and it is not a statement about the product. The purchase is with the retailer, under the retailer’s terms. Campsite is not a party to that sale.

Patagonia’s name and logo are trademarks of their owner. Showing them does not mean Patagonia operates or endorses Campsite.

Third-party services

The Service links to or relies on third parties, including map, weather, wildfire, air-quality, and app-store providers, retailers linked from ads, and websites we do not control. We are not responsible for their content, policies, or practices. Your use of those services is between you and them.

Termination

You may stop using the Service at any time. You may delete your account in the app or on the website. Deleting the account is described in the Privacy Policy, including what happens to reviews and photos you already posted, and the fact that deletion does not cancel a subscription.

We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service, or remove Content, at any time if we believe you have violated these Terms, if we must do so to comply with law, or if we discontinue a feature. We will not be liable for that removal except where the law does not allow this limitation. Provisions that by their nature should survive, including licenses to Content that remains on the Service, the safety and assumption-of-risk terms, indemnity, disclaimers, and limits on liability, will survive.

Indemnity

You will defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Campsite and its members, managers, employees, and agents from any claim, loss, liability, and expense, including reasonable attorneys’ fees, arising out of your Content, your use of the Service, a trip or activity you undertake using the Service, or your violation of these Terms, the law, or a third party’s rights. We may control the defense of a claim that you are required to indemnify, and you will cooperate with that defense. This indemnity does not apply to a claim caused by our gross negligence, willful misconduct, or fraud.

Disclaimers

The Service is provided “AS IS” and “AS AVAILABLE,” with all faults. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express, implied, or statutory, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, non-infringement, and any warranty arising from dealing, performance, or usage of trade.

We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free, that defects will be corrected, or that any listing, review, photo, road, boundary, weather forecast, cell-coverage estimate, fire, smoke, or air-quality layer is accurate, complete, or current. We do not warrant that the Service is free of harmful components. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain warranty disclaimers, so some of the above may not apply to you. In those jurisdictions, the disclaimers apply to the fullest extent the law allows.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Campsite and its suppliers will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data, business interruption, personal injury, or property damage, arising out of the Service or your inability to use it, including your reliance on any listing, review, photo, or map layer. This applies even if we have been advised of the possibility of those damages and even if a remedy fails of its essential purpose.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, our total liability for any claim arising out of the Service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid for Campsite Supporter in the twelve months before the claim, or one hundred U.S. dollars ($100).

These limits do not apply to liability for our gross negligence, willful misconduct, or fraud, or to any liability that cannot be limited under the law of the State of California. Some states do not allow certain limitations, so some of the above may not apply to you. In those states, our liability is limited to the fullest extent the law allows.

Governing law and disputes

These Terms and your use of the Service are governed by the laws of the State of California, excluding its conflict-of-laws rules. Subject to the next paragraph, the state and federal courts located in Los Angeles County, California, are the exclusive venue, and you consent to personal jurisdiction there.

Before filing a claim, you agree to email support@campsite.camp and try to resolve the dispute informally for at least 30 days, except that either party may seek injunctive relief for misuse of intellectual property or unauthorized access. If a consumer-protection law that applies to you gives you a non-waivable right to sue in another court, that right remains. If you are a consumer in the European Union, you also have the mandatory protections of the law of the country where you live, and you may bring a claim in that country where that law requires it.

Other terms

If a provision of these Terms is unenforceable, it will be modified to the minimum extent needed to make it enforceable, and the rest will remain in effect. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver. A waiver of one breach is not a waiver of any later breach. These Terms are the entire agreement between you and Campsite about the Service. They do not create a partnership, joint venture, or any duty to update a listing or to monitor conditions in the field.

We may change these Terms. We will post the updated Terms and change the date above. If a change is material, we will provide at least 30 days’ notice before it takes effect, by a notice in the app or on the website, or by email. What counts as material is determined by us in good faith. If you keep using the Service after the effective date, you agree to the updated Terms. If you do not agree, stop using the Service and delete your account.
