Hōlua Campground
About this site
Hōlua is a primitive wilderness tent campsite located at 6,940 feet in native shrubland near Koʻolau Gap within Haleakalā National Park on Maui. The campsite is accessible only by hiking: 3.7 miles one-way via the Halemauʻu Trail (shortest route) or 7.4 miles one-way via the Sliding Sands Trail. Amenities include pit toilets and a non-potable water source that requires filtering or treatment. Temperatures range from 30-70°F with rapid weather changes; campers should prepare for hot, sunny, cold, wet, and windy conditions. Reservations are required through recreation.gov. Maximum of five people and two tents per single site; group sites allow up to ten people. Pack animals (horses, mules, donkeys) are permitted on designated trails, but other pets are prohibited.
