Hickison Petroglyph Recreation Area - camp sites Additional Info: Free BLM-managed campground located at 6,500 feet elevation in Nevada's Big Smoky Valley near Austin. Approximately 16-17 first-come, first-served sites accommodate tents, trailers, and RVs. Each site features a gravel parking spur, picnic table, fire ring, and BBQ pedestal. Some sites have shade ramadas or tree cover. Amenities include vault toilets and trash collection. No water, hookups, or cell service available. The recreation area features a self-guided interpretive trail (approximately 0.5-1.65 miles) with petroglyphs dating to nearly 10,000 years ago, plus scenic views of the Toquima and Toiyabe mountain ranges. 14-day stay limit. Pets allowed.
