Hickison Petroglyph Recreation Area - camp sites Additional Info: Free BLM-managed campground with 17 campsites in a remote high-desert area at 6,500 feet elevation in central Nevada. All sites are first-come, first-served and can accommodate tents, trailers, and RVs. Each site has a gravel parking spur, picnic table, BBQ pedestal, fire ring, and grill. Some sites have shade ramadas or tree shade. Amenities include vault toilets and trash collection. No drinking water available; nearest water and groceries in Austin or Eureka. The recreation area features a self-guided interpretive trail (0.5-1.65 miles) with petroglyphs dating to nearly 10,000 years ago, with portions offering ADA accessibility. 14-day stay limit. Located 24 miles east of Austin on US Highway 50.
