Bear Harbor Campsites is a backcountry camping area within Sinkyone Wilderness State Park on the Lost Coast near Whitethorn, CA. The site features 8 campsites on a small south-facing dark sand beach with rugged coastal terrain, dense forests, and steep cliffs. Access is via a 3-mile hike from Needle Rock Visitor Center along the Lost Coast Trail. The area offers fishing opportunities, tide pooling, and access to nearby attractions including Jones Beach (2 miles), Whale Gulch (4.5 miles round trip), and the Lost Coast Trail. Temperatures range from 40°F to 70°F depending on season. The final 3.5 miles of road access to the trailhead are unpaved, steep, and narrow; RVs and trailers are not recommended. Supplies should be brought from Garberville or Leggett. Year-round access, though roads may be impassable during wet weather.
