About this site
Agate Creek (2Y1) is a designated backcountry campsite in Yellowstone National Park, accessed via a strenuous 6.7-mile hike from Specimen Ridge Trailhead through meadows and forest to the confluence of Agate Creek and Yellowstone River. Features include a cooking area with fire ring and food pole; camp in the open clearing near trees, not near the river due to bear activity. Water from Yellowstone River or Agate Creek. Grizzly bears frequent the area; backcountry permit required. Additional Info: Backcountry campsite for backpackers only. Bison, elk, bighorn sheep, wolves, coyotes, and bears common.
