White Pine Backcountry Campground
About this site
White Pine Backcountry Campground has six designated sites within the Sleeping Bear Dunes Wilderness. It is accessed by approximately a 1-2 mile hike from trailheads on Peterson Road or Trails End Road off M-22 south of Empire. A backcountry permit and park pass are required. Maximum of two tents and four people per site. Use backpack stoves or community fire rings with dead, down, detached wood only. Water must be treated from Lake Michigan beach (about 0.5 mile away); no well water available. Check-in 2 pm, check-out noon, quiet hours 10 pm-6 am. Additional Info: Sites available year-round. Reservations up to seven days in advance via recreation.gov. Fee $13 per night per campsite.
