Upper Chatanika River State Recreation Site sits at Mile 39 of the Steese Highway near Fairbanks, offering 24 wooded sites along the Upper Chatanika River in Alaska's Interior. Managed by Alaska State Parks and surrounded by spruce forest with river access, the campground features vault toilets, drinking water, fire rings, and picnic tables. Some sites are wheelchair-accessible. A road leads to a gravel bar area for day-use fishing, picnicking, and sunbathing. The site is popular with canoeists and rafters launching for all-day floats on the Chatanika River. Open seasonally May through September. Quiet hours are 11 PM to 6 AM; generators and ATVs are not permitted during quiet hours.
