Twining Campground

Twining Campground is a unique four-site tent campground situated in an aspen grove adjacent to Taos Ski Valley's lower parking lot at 9,500 feet elevation. The campground's location offers an unusual combination of backcountry access and resort proximity, making it ideal for hikers looking to acclimate to high altitude or enjoy both wilderness trails and village amenities. The campground serves as a primary access point to the Wheeler Peak Wilderness and Columbine-Hondo Wilderness Study Area. The Bull of the Woods Trailhead sits just across Twining Road, providing access to Wheeler Peak Trail that leads to New Mexico's highest summit at 13,161 feet. Other nearby trails include Williams Lake Trail, Long Canyon Trail, Goose Lake Trail, and Gold Hill Trail. Additional Info: Tucked in an aspen grove just aside Taos Ski Valley’s lower parking lot. Open spring-fall; winter access available but bathrooms locked. Along the Rio Hondo river for fishing. Facilities include tables, grills, toilets. Water from stream (not potable).
