Sucker Brook Shelter
About this site
Trail shelter located on the North Country Trail and Long Trail in the Joseph Battell Wilderness. 3 sided Lean-to with privy on site Additional Info: Sucker Brook Shelter is a traditional three-sided lean-to maintained by the Green Mountain Club in partnership with the U.S. Forest Service. The shelter is open year-round on a first-come, first-served basis with no fees or reservations required. Water must be treated or filtered from Sucker Brook. A small fire ring is available at the site. Access requires a moderate hike via the Sucker Brook Trail (approximately 0.9 miles to the shelter), which ascends from Forest Road 67 following the brook upstream on an old logging road. The Green Mountain National Forest requires proper food storage using bear canisters, bear hangs, or approved containers to minimize bear encounters. The location offers continued hiking on the Long Trail north to Worth Mountain where several vistas can be found.
