Short Creek Guard Station

Short Creek Guard Station is a rustic cabin located in Malheur National Forest, approximately 20 miles south of Prairie City, Oregon, at an elevation of 5,000 feet. The cabin sits in a corner of a small meadow surrounded by tall ponderosa pines with a creek running alongside. It features one queen-sized bed in a private bedroom, a large couch in the living room, a kitchen with propane cookstove and refrigerator, propane lights and heater, and an indoor bathroom with flush toilet and shower (summer months only). A picnic table, two BBQ grills, and a fire pit are located outside. Drinking water is available during warmer months (mid-May/early June through early to mid-October). The site is directly adjacent to the North Fork Malheur Scenic River and offers access to Monument Rock and Strawberry Mountain wilderness areas. Nearby activities include hiking, hunting, fishing, and wildlife viewing. Guests must bring their own bedding, towels, flashlights, first aid kit, garbage bags, and dish soap. The cabin must be cleaned and all garbage removed before checkout. Open June 10 - October 31. $60 per night. Reservations through Recreation.gov or 1-877-444-6777.
