Point Lookout State Park is a public recreation area and historic preserve occupying Point Lookout, the southernmost tip of a peninsula formed by the confluence of Chesapeake Bay and the Potomac River in St. Mary's County, Maryland. The park encompasses 1,079 acres of forest, marsh, and sandy beaches. The campground features 90 wooded campsites, with 26 offering full hookups and 4 equipped with electricity only. Six camping cabins are also available for rent. The park preserves the site of an American Civil War prisoner of war camp and is home to the Point Lookout Lighthouse, built in 1830, and the Civil War Museum. Amenities include a 710-foot fishing pier, boat launch, beaches, and picnic areas. Additional Info: Camping reservations: 1-888-432-CAMP (2267). Park headquarters hours: 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Monday-Friday. Hours of operation: 7 a.m. - Sunset (May through September). Check-in at 3 p.m.; day-use fee applies if arriving before check-in.
