New Discovery State Park
About this site
New Discovery State Park is located in the 27,000-acre Groton State Forest and was built by the CCC in the 1930s. Many of their stone fireplaces and log picnic pavilions are still in use today. The park features 46 tent/RV sites, 15 lean-tos, and a 7-site horse camping area with paddocks, hitching posts, water spigots and troughs. Facilities include restrooms with flush toilets, hot and cold running water, and coin-operated showers. The park has two log picnic pavilions: Osmore Pond Pavilion (seats up to 100 people) and Owl's Head shelter (seats up to 50 people), both with picnic tables and grills. Remote camping is also available along the shores of Osmore Pond where breeding loons are found in the summer. The park is a hub for miles of trails in Groton State Forest and offers excellent horse camping with access to riding trails including the Montpelier-Wells River Rail Trail (Cross Vermont Trail). Additional Info: Sites accommodate RVs up to 20 feet. No hookups available at campsites. Dump station available. Nightly fees: $20 for Vermont residents, $28 for non-residents. Additional fees apply for more than four campers per site and for prime spots. Open Friday of Memorial Day Weekend through the second Monday in October.
