About this site

NEW CANYON (Campground) New Canyon Campground is a small, rustic, free campground in the Manzano Mountains of Cibola National Forest, west of the village of Manzano, NM. It sits at about 7,600–7,800 feet elevation in mixed conifer forest and is accessible via Forest Road 245 (Capilla Road). The campground operates seasonally, typically from April through November, and is closed during winter months when the access road is closed. The campground offers basic amenities including vault toilets and picnic tables at each site, but no potable water is available, so campers must bring their own. There are no showers, sewage hookups, electric hookups, or water hookups. The site is first‑come, first‑served with no advance reservations. New Canyon Campground is suitable for tent camping and small RVs; the maximum recommended RV length is about 22 feet, and the campground is not big‑rig friendly. The New Canyon Trail (Trail 101) begins directly across from the campground and provides access into the Manzano Wilderness, making the area popular for hiking and wildlife viewing.
