Mount Mitchell State Park Campground
About this site
Mount Mitchell State Park Campground is a tent-only, walk-in facility with 9 sites located at high elevation (over 6,000 feet) within North Carolina's first state park, protecting the highest peak east of the Mississippi River. Each site has a picnic table and grill. Vault toilets and water spigots are available. The campground provides access to hiking trails including the summit trail and Mountains-to-Sea Trail. It operates seasonally May through October when weather permits, but is closed for 2025-2026 due to water line installation. Additional Info: Reservations required via NC State Parks system.
