Backcountry Campsite #38 is located at the summit of Mount Sterling (5,840 ft) in Great Smoky Mountains National Park, at the base of the historic fire tower. It accommodates up to 12 hikers with flat tent areas, fire rings, and a bear cable system. Water source is a spring 1/4 mile down Baxter Creek Trail. Accessed via steep hikes on Baxter Creek Trail or Mount Sterling Trail. Advance permit required for all backcountry camping.
