McCabe Flat Campground
About this site
McCabe Flat Campground is the first of three BLM campgrounds in the Merced River Recreation Management Area, located 2.3 miles west of the Briceburg suspension bridge along the Wild & Scenic Merced River. It features one of the largest sandy beaches in the area with a designated swimming area where dogs are not allowed (dogs permitted on leash elsewhere). The campground offers 8 walk-in tent sites (50-200 feet from parking via accessible trails), 2 drive-up sites, and 1 group site for up to 20 people and 6 vehicles. All sites include picnic tables, fire rings, bearproof food lockers, and are ADA accessible. Amenities include 2 vault toilets (accessible), 1 port-o-let, bearproof garbage/recycling, and a self-pay fee station. No potable water at campground (available at Briceburg Bridge). Maximum vehicle length 18 feet; trailers/RVs over 18 feet not recommended due to bridge. Open year-round, 14-day stay limit. Additional Info: Shaded by oak and pine trees. Popular spring/summer destination. Dirt/gravel access road.
