Low development scale Forest Service operated campground Additional Info: Luther Pass Campground is a primitive, backcountry campground located on Highway 89 approximately 16 miles south of South Lake Tahoe. The campground is free and has a five-day stay limit per season with 11 campsites available on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservations. Amenities include vault restrooms and a dumpster. Potable water is not available on-site. Campfires are only permitted within permanent iron fire rings when the campground is open and enhanced fire restrictions are not in effect. The campground is situated at 7,000 feet elevation just up the road from Big Meadow Trailhead, providing convenient access to the Tahoe Rim Trail for hikers and backpackers.
