About this site

Lower Blacktail Creek is a designated backcountry campsite in Yellowstone National Park, accessible via the Blacktail Deer Creek Trail from the Blacktail Deer Creek Trailhead (1N5) on the Grand Loop Road between Mammoth Hot Springs and Tower. It is located approximately 1 mile from the trailhead, past Rescue Creek, in a well-maintained site suitable for overnight stays. A backcountry permit is required for overnight camping. Campfires are allowed only in designated fire rings. Food storage must follow bear safety regulations: sleep 100 yards from cooking areas, use approved bear-resistant containers or food poles (10 feet high, 4 feet from sides), and carry 35 feet of rope. Pets are not allowed. Additional Info: Dispersed camping is not permitted; use designated backcountry sites. The site is part of trails leading to Yellowstone River, Crevice Lake, and Knowles Falls.
