Joe River Chickee #2
About this site
Joe River Chickee is a double chickee backcountry campsite located within Everglades National Park on the east bank of the mouth of Joe River. The site consists of two elevated wooden platforms (chickees) built on stilts over the water, each typically measuring 10' x 12' and covered by a roof. Access is by powerboat, canoe, or kayak at all tides. The site includes a self-contained composting or vault toilet. There is no potable water, showers, or general store; visitors must be entirely self-sufficient and pack out all waste. The location offers exceptional wildlife viewing, with frequent dolphin sightings and abundant wading birds and raptors. The chickee sits in a small cove with tall trees that block all but southwesterly breezes.
