Hammocks Beach State Park Primitive Campsites
About this site
Bear Island primitive camping at Hammocks Beach State Park offers 14 oceanfront family campsites accommodating up to six people each, positioned near the beach and inlet. Access is via seasonal passenger ferry service (April through October) or by canoe, kayak, or private boat. Campsites feature toilets, drinking water, and designated campfire areas. Beach access may be limited during high tides due to erosion; use the path behind campsites when necessary. All campers must check in at the visitor center on the mainland to obtain parking permits. The island is known for excellent shelling, wildlife viewing, and loggerhead sea turtle nesting (mid-May to late August).
