Hammocks Beach State Park Primitive Campsites
About this site
Primitive beach camping on Bear Island with 14 oceanfront family campsites accommodating up to six people each, positioned near the beach and inlet. Access is via seasonal passenger ferry service (April through October) or by canoe, kayak, or private boat. Amenities include toilets, drinking water, and designated campfire areas. Bathhouse facilities are available. The site offers a true backcountry experience with excellent shelling and wildlife viewing opportunities, including migratory shorebirds and loggerhead sea turtle nesting (mid-May to late August). All campers must check in at the visitor center on the mainland to obtain parking permits.
