About this site

Halapē is a backcountry campsite located on the southern seacoast of Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park, accessible by an 8-mile hike from the closest trailhead through non-native grasses to a small sandy beach. Additional Info: Requires backcountry permit for overnight camping. Features a three-walled primitive shelter. Composting toilet available. Water from catchment tank (treat before drinking, availability varies). No campfires permitted; camp stoves allowed. Maximum group size 12.
