About this site
Hike-in backcountry campsite located 6-7 miles from Chisos Basin Trailhead via the Pinnacles Trail (8.5 miles via Laguna Meadow Trail). Situated along the northern edge of a high lava plateau overlooking the desert. Campsites are set 150-300 feet into the trees on the opposite side of the trail, not on the rim edge itself. A short 200-300 foot walk from the site provides spectacular panoramic vistas. Maximum 6 people, 2 tents per site. No water available; hikers must carry all necessary water (at least 1 gallon per 24 hours per person). Trails are well-marked and maintained year-round. Note: From February 1 to May 31, a portion of the East Rim Trail is closed between ER-3 and the southern junction of Boot Canyon Trail to protect peregrine falcons. Overnight parking available at Chisos Basin Amphitheater.
