Camp Shelly
About this site
Tucked away in a pine forest near the south shore of Lake Tahoe, this intimate 25-site family-friendly campground offers spacious campsites in a beautiful setting. Opportunities for bicycling, swimming, fishing, horseback riding, and hiking can be found just minutes away. Within the camp, visitors may enjoy a game of volleyball, horseshoes, or ping pong while the kids ride their bikes around the paved campground loop. Each campsite has a parking place, picnic table, fire pit with grill, "bear-proof" food locker, and a level spot to pitch a tent. Several sites can accommodate boats, tent trailers, and motor homes, while a few sites can hold vehicles or trailers up to 24 feet in length and 10 feet in height. In addition, there are sites that can accommodate people with mobility issues. A brand-new central restroom has flush toilets, hot showers, and is mobility accessible. Named for Constance S. Shelly, Superintendent of the district who worked towards the acquisition of the campground. Additional Info: Camp Shelly is operated by the Livermore Area Recreation and Park District through a Special Use Permit with the Forest Service. The campground is generally open early-June through Labor Day. Lake Tahoe and the Glen Alpine and Mt. Tallac trailheads are all within hiking distance. Nearby are Emerald Bay, Taylor Creek Visitor Center, Tallac Historic Site, and Vikingsholm.
