Black Mountain Backpack Camp is a backcountry site in Monte Bello Open Space Preserve, accessible by a 1.5-mile hike from the main parking lot on Page Mill Road, including a 500-foot uphill climb. A permit for overnight parking is required. Visitors must arrive before sunset as the preserve closes a half-hour after sunset. Mountain biking to the camp requires a helmet. A pay phone is available at the camp. Check trail conditions and seasonal closures via the Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District.
