Big Fog Saddle

Fog Mountain Trailhead is located at the end of Forest Service Road 319 (Fog Mountain Road) at Big Fog Saddle, providing access to three trails into the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness: Cove Lakes Trail #31, Big Fog Mountain Trail #343, and Big Rock Trail #693. A four-wheel drive vehicle is required to reach the trailhead (no trailers), or access is available by hiking or horseback. The road is extremely steep and rocky. Once at the trailhead there is ample parking and a few dispersed campsites. The area offers rugged terrain with forested areas and mountain views, with summer temperatures reaching the 80s Fahrenheit and winter lows dropping below freezing. Nearby visitors can explore the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness and enjoy hiking and wildlife observation.
