About this site

Belle Isle Campground sits on Belle Isle in Belle Harbor on the remote northeast end of Isle Royale National Park, accessible only by water. This wilderness campground features 6 shelters available on a first-come, first-served basis, with no reservation system. Boaters can use the dock for overnight stays, which typically has a depth of 13 feet under normal conditions. The campground operates seasonally with composting toilets and non-potable water available during the season. A community fire ring is provided, though self-contained stoves are recommended. Each site includes food storage lockers as part of new guidelines to reduce human-wildlife interactions, particularly with wolves. A 5-night consecutive stay limit is enforced from June 1 through Labor Day. Camping is free but requires a free overnight permit. Pets are not allowed in the park, and quiet hours are enforced from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. EDT.
