About this site

Basin Creek Lake is a designated backcountry campsite located in the Heart Lake area of southern Yellowstone National Park, positioned between Sheridan Lake and Red Creek meadows. Access is via the Heart Lake Trail system, though the NPS has rerouted the trail away from the lake shoreline in recent years. This walk-in site serves backpackers exploring the remote southern wilderness and Heart Lake basin. The campsite provides basic backcountry facilities including designated tent pads and primitive amenities. A backcountry permit obtained through Recreation.gov is required year-round for overnight camping. Campers must store all food using approved bear-resistant containers or rope hangs and follow strict Leave No Trace principles. Fire regulations vary by location and season - verify current rules before departure. Maximum stay is 3 consecutive nights at this site.
