Aster Lake Backcountry Campground is in Peter Lougheed Provincial Park, 50 km south of Hwy. 1 on Hwy. 40 and south on Kananaskis Lakes Trail. The closest access is at the Upper Lake Day Use Area. It is 10.8 km from the trailhead via Upper Kananaskis Lake Circuit/Aster Lake Route Trail. This idyllic spot is accessed via an unmaintained trail so is only suitable for experienced hikers, prepared to route find and fend for themselves. No fires are permitted. There are pit/vault toilets and secure food storage lockers. Additional Info: 6 sites at $12 per person per night. Creek water source. Camping season Jul 2 - Nov 29. Reservations required 90 days in advance via Kananaskis Lake permit area. Maximum 6 people and 1 tent per site. Information: 403-678-0760.
