About this site

Yankee Paradise is one of three designated wilderness campsites in Cumberland Island National Seashore, located 7.5 miles north of the Sea Camp ferry dock in the remote northern section of the island. Access requires a passenger ferry to Cumberland Island followed by a substantial backpacking trek along the Parallel and Yankee Paradise trails through maritime forest and coastal ecosystems. This is a true wilderness experience with no developed amenities or facilities. Campers must be completely self-sufficient and prepared for primitive conditions. Water is available from a nearby well but must be treated before consumption. All food and trash must be stored or hung to protect against raccoons and other wildlife. Fires are prohibited; camp stoves are permitted for cooking. The wilderness area north of Stafford Beach closes periodically from October through January for managed hunts. Permits are $9 per night for up to 6 people, with a maximum stay of 7 consecutive nights. Only service animals are permitted.
