Primitive roadside backcountry campsite in Big Bend National Park along Old Ore Road. Accommodates 1 vehicle only, no trailers, up to 6 people. No shade, toilets, or amenities provided. A Backcountry Permit is required. Located 10 miles from the southern end or 16.4 miles from the northern end of Old Ore Road, 0.1 mile north of Ernst Basin Campsite. Old Ore Road is maintained for high clearance vehicles only and requires 4-wheel drive following rains and heavy use. Site offers good views of Deadhorse Mountains to the east and is good for wildlife observation. Named for a large earthen tank built by ranchers near a natural spring. Generators are prohibited.
