Ward's Family Campground

About this site

Ward's Farm Campsite is a private walk-in only campsite intended for Mountains-to-Sea Trail hikers near Falls Lake. There is no public vehicle access to the site. The site has pads for seven two-person tents, a community area with firepit and grill, a shelter, a small library and a privy. The landowners generously make the site available to hikers at no charge but ask that guests observe the following rules: Two night maximum stay; sites are first come, first served, no reservations. No fires except in the community fire pit or grill. Please practice Leave-No-Trace ethics. Pack out all trash. Do not explore beyond a 75-yard radius from the shelter. Please use the privy for solid human waste and the woods for liquid. Dogs are permitted but must be under control at all times. Access to the campsite is available from trailheads located at 5399 Red Mill Rd., Durham, NC 27704 and 3730 Snow Hill Rd., Durham, NC 27712 (Penny’s Bend Nature Preserve).
