Waptus Lake Camp

Waptus Lake Camp is a backpacking campsite located in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness in Washington, accessed via the Waptus River Trail from the Salmon La Sac Trailhead near Cle Elum. The campground features 28 campsites with vault toilets, fire pits, and picnic tables. The area offers stunning views of surrounding mountains including Bears Breast Mountain and Little Big Chief, with opportunities for fishing, swimming, and hiking to nearby destinations such as Spade Lake, Venus Lake, and the Pacific Crest Trail. The trail is approximately 8.4 miles one-way and is popular with backpackers and horse campers. Best visited June through September; winter access requires snowmobile or ski.
