Tumbleweed Campground
About this site
Tumbleweeds is one of the larger campgrounds within Curt Gowdy State Park, located 24 miles west of Cheyenne and 24 miles east of Laramie via State Route 210. The campground features water and electric hookups at most sites, making it suitable for RVs and trailers. Campsites 17–31 have water and electric hookups, while sites 31–33 are located steps away from the reservoir. The park encompasses three reservoirs and diverse terrain ranging from low-lying meadows to massive granite formations. Granite Springs Reservoir provides excellent fishing for rainbow trout and kokanee salmon, as well as opportunities for boating, water skiing, and paddleboarding. Crystal Reservoir offers more intimate fishing and boating with a 15 horsepower motor limit. The park features over 35 miles of IMBA-certified mountain biking trails, hiking trails, an archery range, and horseback riding opportunities. Winter activities include ice fishing and skiing. Campers have access to the park's modern visitor center, which houses flush toilets and coin-operated showers. The campground is pet-friendly and offers a mix of reservable and first-come, first-served camping (first-come, first-served October 1 through May 14; reservable May 15 through September 30). Water in the park is shut off October 1, though flush toilets and showers remain available at the visitor center.
