Trout Creek National Recreation Trail (NRT) #774 is a 19.8-mile loop trail located in the Trout Creek Roadless Area in northwest Montana. The trail makes a large loop following the East Fork of Trout Creek, Idaho/Montana border, South Branch of Trout Creek, and the West Fork of Trout Creek. The trail traverses a pristine roadless area of over 20,000 acres and climbs to an elevation of 5,663 feet. Numerous Forest System trails and open roads intersect the trail allowing for a variety of loop hiking options. There are many dispersed campsites along the trail. Most visitors access the trail from the trailhead located at the end of Hope Valley Road/FSR 214. No motorized vehicles are permitted. Additional Info: Difficulty: More difficult. Elevation gain: 2,847 feet. FSR 214 is very rough and only suitable for high-clearance vehicles.
