About this site
Tin House Camp is an abandoned tin house built in 1944 by former Congressman Lathrop Brown and his wife, located high on a ridge in Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park with sweeping ocean views. Accessed via a strenuous 6-8 mile out-and-back hike on Tanbark Trail featuring redwood forest, Partington Creek, and steep elevation gain of over 3,000 feet. The structure is made from tin sheeting from old gas stations; the Browns stayed only one night due to noise from thermal expansion. Note: The tin house reportedly burned down in a wildfire.
