The Gate Campground
About this site
BLM campground on the banks of the Lake Fork of the Gunnison River, located 16 miles north of Lake City on Highway 149. The campground is tucked into the geologic formation known as The Gate, where the river has carved a distinctive notch through the surrounding rocks. Features 8 campsites, two vault restrooms, and a hand pump with potable water. Provides direct river access for trout fishing and is located on the Silver Thread National Scenic Byway. 14-day stay limit. No trash service—pack it out. Elevation 7,990 ft. Typically operates seasonally from late spring through fall due to snow and road conditions.
