Tangle Lakes Campground
About this site
Tangle Lakes Campground sits at MP 21.5 on the north side of the Denali Highway within both the Delta Wild and Scenic River corridor and the Tangle Lakes Archaeological District boundary, where over 10,000 years of human use have been documented. The campground provides 45 accessible campsites and 4 walk-in sites spread across two flat, compacted-gravel camping loops, along with two larger group sites. The campground rests amid the Tangle Lakes, a series of long, narrow lakes connected by the Tangle River that form the headwaters of the Delta River. A paved boat launch provides access to the lakes and serves as the designated put-in for the popular 30-mile Delta Wild and Scenic River float trip to the Richardson Highway. The area is home to moose and caribou, making it a popular base camp for fall hunting season. Additional Info: The campground is managed by the BLM and is typically open from around Memorial Day through Labor Day weekend, depending on weather and road conditions. Amenities include water pumps, six double vaulted toilets (three accessible), bear-proof trash receptacles and food lockers, picnic tables, fire rings, accessible trails, and an interpretive area. A high-clearance vehicle is recommended for the gravel Denali Highway access.
