Sugar River Forest Preserve

Sugar River Forest Preserve is a 529-acre scenic preserve nestled among beautiful woods and prairie on the banks of the Sugar River in northern Illinois. The campground offers 70 electric hookup sites with paved access roads, running water, electric hookups, restrooms, and a dump station. Primitive tent camping sites are available on a first-come first-served basis along the river. The preserve features a 5.9-mile trail system for hiking, canoe launch access, and diverse habitats including woodlands, sand prairie, and wetlands. Amenities include showerhouse facilities, picnic tables, and firewood availability. The campground is open seasonally from mid-April through November, with reservations required for electric sites (7 days in advance) and walk-in primitive sites available without reservation.
