Stone Cliff Campground
About this site
Tent-only walk-in campground within New River Gorge National Park and Preserve located near the historic railroad town of Thurmond. Seven first-come, first-served sites accessible by a narrow, winding paved road. Most sites require a short walk-in from the parking area, with sites 2-5 positioned directly on the sandy riverbank of the New River. Campers can swim in the New River, fish from the sandy shoreline, or follow the trail system that connects to Thurmond. The Stone Cliff Trailhead starts at the campground. Vault toilets available. No potable water on-site. Sites lack picnic tables and established fire rings, though previous campers have constructed stone fire circles. Pets allowed. Free camping, first-come, first-served, open year-round.
