STAR ISLAND RECREATION AREA (Camping Area) Additional Info: Star Island is the largest of four islands in Cass Lake in the Chippewa National Forest in northern Minnesota. The island encompasses 980 acres of both public land and private homes. The Chippewa National Forest manages more than three-fourths of the island for public, scenic and recreational use. Star Island has more than eight miles of shoreline and six miles of trails wind along the high banks and deep woods. Lake Windigo, a 199-acre spring-fed lake, sits within Star Island. Access is by boat or canoe from the US Highway 2 Wayside Rest Area east of Cass Lake, which provides parking and drive-down boat access. Boat rentals are available from local businesses. No fees are required.
