About this site

The 198-acre Springfield Hill Natural Resource Area is located in the Town of Roxbury near State Highway 12. Natural Resource Areas are lands designated for the protection of a valuable natural environment, wildlife habitat, open space, and/or greenbelt corridor. The property consists of steep wooded valleys, glacial kettle ponds and open meadow area. It also includes a section of the Ice Age National Scenic Trail which provides outstanding views from atop Springfield Hill, one of the highest points in the area. Additional Info: Springfield Hill hosts a dispersed camping area for long-distance Ice Age Trail hikers only. Similar to primitive camping areas, dispersed camping areas lack facilities and no permits or reservations are required. The hiker may camp anywhere within sight of a centrally located sign that defines the dispersed camping area. These areas are not open for single-night out-and-back hikes.
