South Rim 2 is a designated backcountry campsite in Big Bend National Park's Chisos Mountains, accessible only by hiking. It is one of forty-two designated backcountry campsites in the Chisos Mountains along the South Rim Trail system. A backcountry permit is required for all overnight stays and can be obtained up to 6 months in advance via recreation.gov. The site is surrounded by rugged terrain with expansive views over the Chihuahuan Desert. Temperatures range from 40°F in winter to over 100°F in summer.
