Slide Horse Camp is a specialized equestrian campground situated in the Malheur National Forest near Prairie City, Oregon. The campground caters specifically to horse enthusiasts with sites equipped with horse stalls and corrals. Set among ponderosa pines at approximately 5,900 feet elevation, the campground provides a peaceful mountain setting for visitors traveling with horses. The campground serves as an excellent starting point for exploring the nearby Strawberry Mountain Wilderness. The Slide Connector Trail #386 is located just up the road from the campground, providing direct access to wilderness trails. Strawberry Campground and the Strawberry Basin Trailhead are within one mile, offering additional recreation opportunities including hiking and backcountry exploration. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservations accepted. Campers must be prepared to bring their own water as none is available on-site. Basic amenities include vault toilets and sites with tables and fire pits. Additional Info: Each campsite has a picnic table, fire ring, horse corral, and parking for camp trailers and horse trailers. Accessible vault toilets are conveniently located in the middle of the campground. The campground has 3 standard nonelectric sites.
