About this site

A primitive campground in the West Crazy Mountains on the Yellowstone District of Custer Gallatin National Forest, located 24 miles northeast of Wilsall on Shields River Road. The campground features 6 first-come, first-served campsites at no charge. Vault toilets are provided; no potable water is available. Pack-in, pack-out basis with no trash services. Maximum vehicle length is 22 feet. The road can be challenging when wet; call the ranger district for current road conditions. Open 6/16–12/1. Excellent fishing in the Shields River for whitefish and Yellowstone cutthroat trout. Surrounding area offers hiking, wildlife viewing, and equestrian access with horse trailer turn-around.
