Sheiks Canyon

Sheiks Canyon is a hiking trailhead and canyon access point in the Grand Gulch Primitive Area of Cedar Mesa near Blanding, Utah. It is a short, steep side canyon that enters Grand Gulch between Todie and Bullet Canyons. The trailhead is accessed via County Road 250, approximately 4.2-4.6 miles from Utah 261 near mile marker 24.2. The parking area has room for several vehicles and offers camping opportunities. Sheiks Canyon is popular for day hiking and backpacking, with routes ranging from 3 miles to Grand Gulch to 14 miles for the Sheiks/Bullet loop. The canyon features notable archaeological sites including the Yellow House Ruin and the Green Mask rock art panel, with evidence of occupation dating from the Archaic period (6500-1500 BC) through late Puebloan habitation around 1260 AD. A day hiking pass is required ($5 per person per day). The canyon is less popular than nearby Bullet Canyon and is primarily used by experienced hikers seeking archaeological sites and canyon exploration.
