SHEEP ROCK (Interpretive Site) Additional Info: Sheep Rock is a scenic overlook and interpretive nature trail in the Payette National Forest on the Idaho rim of Hells Canyon, the deepest canyon in North America. Located at an elevation of 6,847 feet, approximately 42 miles northwest of Council, Idaho. The site features a barrier-free overlook with views of Hells Canyon and distinctive lava layers. A half-mile interpretive trail provides information about the area's geology and natural history. Designated a National Natural Landmark in 1976. Facilities include vault toilet and picnic tables. No potable water available. The area is home to bighorn sheep, mountain goats, and various birds of prey. Nearby is Kinney Point, an old lookout site about 1.5 miles south.
